Traditions in Asia That Honour the Dead

In Singapore, multiple funeral services allow several religious traditions to proceed in their premises. A nation with a variety of ethnic groups, this allows people with different traditions to honour the dead. When our loved one passes away, a casket must be made available for the funeral ceremony wherein certain rituals are going to occur. Rituals are known to aid the soul of our loved one for reincarnation or Heaven. Here is a brief background on 3 major Asian religions; their funeral rituals and ceremonies:

Buddhism

For Chinese Buddhists, the funeral ceremony is said to last for 49 days, but the ceremony can also be shortened for those who cannot afford it. For the longer version, prayers are uttered every seven days, and these are offered profusely until it is time for the burial or cremation, whichever is preferred by the family can be provided by a funeral service in Singapore. Chinese Buddhists believe that the proper completion and performance of rituals shall yield a favourable rebirth for their loved ones.

Islam

Muslims abide by the strict procedures of washing and preparing the deceased loved one for the burial rights. This shall be done by the mosque and qualified Muslims of the government mortuary. Subsequently, a prayer congregation is to take place, and the casket must be put in the local cemetery. For the latter act, it is highly recommended that the casket be carried. Their burial procedure applies to all deceased Muslims, and this ritual must take place as soon as possible. There are several funeral parlours in Singapore that offer services such as construct marble graves suited for Muslims.

Christianity

After a Christian soul passes away, a casket is prepared by a funeral parlour. Early preparations are to be done so that the relatives can mourn with the immediate and close family members. The death ritual consists of sermons from the Holy Bible, prayers, and deep reflections. A prayer congregation is to be held on behalf of the deceased person. A mass will take place together with the casket to seek for the deceased person’s soul to reach the Kingdom of Heaven and be together with the Lord.

A common element in most of these traditions is the casket. It allows us to remember the life of our deceased loved ones. Due to the multinational demographic in Singapore, caskets come in all forms and sizes.  Going through a funeral ceremony can be very difficult most especially if the deceased loved one has shared many meaningful and unforgettable memories with immediate family members, relatives, and friends. Even though this is a tough time for everyone, funeral rituals will allow you to grieve and mourn your loved one.
